VISUAL METAPHOR & CONTENT STRATEGY

The Silver Tsunami Blog

The challenge was translating a complex, industry-wide trend - the retirement wave known as the "Silver Tsunami" into visuals that were immediately engaging and informative, without relying on boring stock imagery. The goal was to establish HiBob as a thought leader in this crucial HR space.
 

Goals:

Establish Thought Leadership​: Create proprietary, differentiated visuals that stood out in the HR tech space.

 

Drive Multi-Platform Engagement: Design assets that could be easily adapted from the blog to social media.
 

Maintain Visual Consistency: Ensure the final product was clearly aligned with the core brand while being uniquely expressive.

THE STRATEGIC PROBLEM:

THE SOLUTION: THE CONCEPTUAL METAPHOR

The solution was to create a single, powerful visual metaphor that captured the scale and movement of the 'Tsunami' while keeping the tone professional.
 

Core Concept: I developed the concept of a rising wave of color/texture washing over a more static, structured landscape, using the company's vibrant palette.
 

This visual identity was applied across the blog's internal illustrations, hero image, and all social media teaser assets to maintain a cohesive narrative thread.

CRAFT & EXECUTION

I owned the conceptual development and the entire execution pipeline, ensuring the core metaphor translated perfectly across every channel.
 

My Process:
 

  • Conceptual Partnership: I collaborated closely with the Content Writer from the parallel team to think through and define the interesting conceptual metaphor that would drive the story.
     

  • Conceptual Development: Defined the metaphor, ensuring it was scalable and easily understood without reliance on text.
     

  • Asset Creation & Handoff: I designed and illustrated the full suite, including the main blog visuals and the motion-ready assets for the social carousel. I then collaborated with our Motion Designer to finalize the animation and deployment.
     

  • Visual QA: Ensured the design language maintained the integrity of the core brand system (which the Framework protects) while pushing the boundaries of the visual style.

IMPACT, RESULTS & VALIDATION 

High Engagement

The unique visuals led to above-average time-on-page and social media share rates, establishing HiBob as a leader in the topic.

Award Validation

The HiBob Blog Page, driven by its content and visual structure, received the prestigious 2024 Gold MarCom Award for excellence in storytelling.

This validates the success of the long-term design foundation I established as the Editorial Design Lead.
